As Gomer Pyle would say......Surprise...Surprise....Surprise
I was given a challenge this day by a customer that likes my
writing. His challenge was to write a piece of Haiku poetry
It took me 40 minutes to look up the proper formatting, pick a
subject. the try to compose. First off a haiku is 3 lines written with no more than
17 syllables. 5 in the first line, 7 in the second and 5 in the third. I
surprised my self then my customer when he returned near closing.
I did not write just one. I wrote three.  One haiku alone should tell the story
I felt 3 would do it better. For my friends in Denmark if you do not understand the term syllable, they are the number of sounds a word can be broken down into. example .... Maple = Ma...ple, Seeking= seek..ing, winters= win..ters etc......
 So......

Fall in Three Haiku
..
Maples golden leaf
Seeking winters bed to rest
First to flee the nest
...
Joined in yearly flight
Honking geese taken to wing
For warm southern hearth
...
Showers made colder
In sunless candle lighting
Close windows for dreams

Has anyone seen my glasses? I had them on my walk. I had them on my drive. I took them off to cut the grass, now they are gone. If you see them let me know....and no, they are not upon my head.
September is almost gone. the trees are changing. I wonder if it will be a long warm fall. As of today i have heard no geese flying south, so I wonder. I think who ever is responsible for the format of this site needs to upday spell check.
enjoy the poem for today.

Companions

Beneath a tree a boulder lays
tossed aside from farmer's field
no choice for companion was given
...
No protests are passed to me,
intruding, resting my legs,
as I sit upon this rock
beneath the tree
...
The sun no longer climbs
as high
the Fall of long shadows,
touches the land
...
Goldenrod and uncut hay dance
upon the farmer's field while
this rock in patient silence
awaits companion laying its'
golden blanket for winters
sleep
...
So I sit here and ponder,
What choices brought them
here?
Two companions by a farmer's
field, in the autumn of the year

Note to self....Do not peel the husk of a walnut that is not dried and split....It will stain the fingers...duh!
It seems that even though next week is the official start of fall, I think it has been here for 2 weeks now. The sun grown weary of climbing high each day, shortens its ride.
I walked the dam of a different lake today. The poem below was the gift to me.

Time to Harvest

Above the rip rap
upon a platform of wood,
I stand and gaze across the
waters of time
a flood held back by
a man made dam
....
Where sky meets land
memories in clouds
bloom and ripen
for the harvest
....
There...age of 5 a
chain derailed so I
can no longer ride
....
Ah yes, sent from class
at the age of 8
for ignoring the teacher...
even then my mind in dreams
wandered
....
One by one above they glide
the sweetest one...that
first kiss
The softess and saddest...
a final hug with a grandmother
I would never see again
 ....
Time has come to harvest
the crop we have sown....
No longer climbing as high
or warming any breeze...
No longer is it a summer sun
for autumn has surely
come
....

Today is a day of memories. This whole week has been a week of forced memories.
It is a day many want to forget. It has, to those many, become a day of politics and corporate money. While previous wars have been about acquireing territory. power and enslaving the people to a single govt. This one is a continuation of the oldest war dateing back thousands of years. Technology has made this a this a quiet war of religion and enslaving people to a single religion. In doing that this world may as well cease to exist. It is the uniqness of each religion that gives this world the beauty of the human spirit. From what I have read all religions have a single top god from which all else came forth. Some put a face to it some do not.
Your religion may not be mine. My religion may not be yours. I do believe there is a creator of all. I live and believe in one rule, the so called golden rule ....Do unto others
as you would have them do unto you....

Sorry I rambled on today.
For my Friends in Denmark. I wish you well and pray for Bonnie The puppy that chose you because she knew you would give her all you could.

Beyond the veil

Morning breaks to
show a cold pallor
Each grass blade,
tree and home
wears a shroud of
grey
....
Tendrils of this cold fog
nudge at the stoop
clarity and sharpness
nowhere to be found
....
Nowhere that is until
I turn my gaze above...

Summer's warnth has met
September's chill
A day of sadness and
gloom is met with light reborn
Cracks of blue, ever
widening lift the
heavy pall
from my heart
....
The beauty is still
there ....
Beyond the veil
....

Ok, for tonight just a quick note.  I am off tomorrow for the holiday so today I
worked in the yard. As of right now I do not have a poem. My apologies to all my
friends.
